DONATIONS

Mackay Women’s Services is teaming up with Star 101.9 to help deliver some cheer with our Christmas Hamper Drive 2023!

If you are able to support a struggling family this Christmas, you can do so by putting together a food hamper for Christmas Day of goodies and gifts and donate to our service for a vulnerable family in need.

This year we are encouraging businesses, schools, and individuals to donate a hamper of food for Christmas day or a food voucher and focus on gifts for Mothers and older children 15+. We thank you all for the overwhelming gifts we have received already for the smaller children, but we need to focus on gifts for the older children and their Mothers this year please.

With the current price of general living expenses including, fuel and food, we would also encourage community to donate vouchers of either food, fuel or gift vouchers for families this year. Some examples of Mother’s gifts/vouchers can include, towels, perfumes, candles, reading books, diffusers, relaxation material or examples of vouchers including: hair, nails, massage, movies.

There are two ways you can help:

⦁ Your business and/or staff, can collect food items, food/fuel vouchers, toiletries, gifts for mothers and older children (15-18), which will then be made into hampers for families in need.
⦁ Adopt a Family: – We can provide you information on a family needing support at Christmas, and you can purchase the whole hamper including food and gifts for one or more families.

We are starting early this year and hope to have everything handed our clients by the 15th December. We are also able to pick up your collections,  if you are unable to deliver.

Some examples of what to include in the Christmas Day Food Hamper:

Jams, biscuits, Christmas Bon Bons, custard, jelly, pudding or cake, tinned fruit, lollies, crisps, coffee/tea and sugar, plus gifts/vouchers for older children and mothers (as we don’t always get as many donations for them).

If you are able to assist in any way please phone Julie on 07 4953 1788 or email julie@mkywc.org.au

We often rely on community generosity and donations to help us provide items for emergency relief or charity drives. There are a number of items we almost always need.

  • toiletries
  • sanitary items
  • nappies (particularly larger sizes)
  • infant formula
  • baby wipes
  • baby food

These items are in constant demand to help women and families with emergency relief. If you’re able to donate any of the above items, please feel free to drop them in to the centre. We’re open from 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Your generosity is appreciated.

Donating larger items

Unfortunately we don’t have enough space at the centre to store multiple items or large items—although there are occasionally families in need of items such as cots, highchairs, strollers and other larger household appliances and furniture.

If you’re interested in donating larger items to the centre it is always best to contact us first to learn more about what items are in particular demand.

We also use GIVIT—the national non-profit organisation that connects donations with those in need – we often post there when we are assisting a person or family who have specific needs.

Fundraising

If you’re interested in fundraising on our behalf—please contact us beforehand on 07 4953 1788 or reception@mkywc.org.au.
