Thanks to the women from Lubra Tok Meta who celebrated NAIDOC a week early at the Centre.
It was an opportunity to showcase their cultures’ traditions and the pieces they have made in recent months at the Tuesday night Indigenous Women’s Group.
The Lubra Tok Meta group meets at the Mackay Women’s Centre weekly to cook, craft, chat, listen to guest speakers and more.
The group name is taken from each of the cultures in the group. Lubra is a local aboriginal word for women. Tok is the South Sea Islander word for conversation and Meta is Torres Strait for home. The name translates to Women’s Talking Home.
Here are some of the amazing creations that were on display at the Centre.
The Indigenous Women’s Group meets on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm. Find out the times of the next Indigenous Women’s Group Meeting.
