Mackay Women’s Centre will ‘Orange the World’ on Friday November 30. Join us and join the global campaign!
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global movement to take action on and raise awareness about violence against women.
The campaign starts on November 25, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ends on December 10, International Human Rights Day.
These two days highlight the fact that violence against women is a human rights issue.
The UN theme for this year’s 16 Days of Activism is Orange the World: #HearMeToo — because recently we’ve seen that when voices come together real change can happen. But for many people speaking out can still have fatal conseqences, and a culture of silence still exists around violence against women.
This year’s theme encourages us to listen to survivors, believe them and put them at the centre in how we respond.
On November 30 the Mackay Women’s Centre will be turning orange to add their support to the Orange the World.
You can also join the campaign! You can participate in person or on social media via the following hashtags: #OrangeUrWorld #OrangeTheWorld #HearMeToo and #EndVAW .
